The Principles of Responsible Gambling
- Gamble only with money you can afford to lose
- Set a budget before you start and stick to it
- Set a time limit and stop when your time is up
- Never chase losses — this leads to further losses
- Gambling is not a reliable income source
- Take regular breaks and balance gambling with other activities
- Never gamble when upset, stressed, or under the influence of alcohol
- Only adults (18+) should gamble
Signs of Problem Gambling
Problem gambling can affect anyone. Warning signs include:
- Spending more money or time on gambling than you can afford
- Finding it difficult to stop or cut back on gambling
- Lying to family or friends about how much you gamble
- Borrowing money or selling possessions to gamble
- Neglecting work, family, or other responsibilities due to gambling
- Gambling to escape stress, anxiety, or depression
- Chasing losses and feeling compelled to win back money
- Irritability or restlessness when trying to stop gambling
